No matter what your sport, there is one key component that an athlete can possess that makes a big difference with the entire team. Speed, strength and an understanding of the game are helpful, but leadership can turn a team into champions. For the Chillicothe Boys Soccer team this season, the leadership roll fell on the shoulders of Brice Griffin.
"I think as a coach, their is nothing nicer than having a player on the field that you can count on as a leader" says Hornets Boys Soccer head coach Tim Cunningham.
Griffin's leadership along with his athletic skills has given him the opportunity to play college soccer next year at Central Methodist University. The Hornet Senior is one of four players from this year's record setting Hornets soccer team to take his skills to the next level, thanks to him recently signing a letter of intent with the University.
Cunningham says Griffin's leadership skills are remarkable. "This is my 11th year as a coach and Brice Griffin is the best leader I've ever had. His leadership on the field, in the summertime, in practices and in games was just incredible. The guys had a great deal of respect for him and in return he had a great deal of respect for them also, and that's a great asset to have on the field"
Griffin, who was a key contributor to the Hornet's success as a midfielder, says he hopes to continue as a central midfielder at Central Methodist but says he'll go where ever he is needed.
"Their coach has been there five years" says Griffin. "They're looking at a national tournament this time around. they've done very well the last three years and looking to compete next year."
Griffin says what sold him on Central Methodist was the the athletic program. "They have a phenomenal thing going on there."
Griffin will be joined at Central Methodist by teammate Trey VanHoutan, who also signed a letter of intent with the University. <story>
