Hornets Running Back
Aaron Baker picks up a nice gain. |
The Chillicothe Football Coaching Staff and fans had their first
opportunity to see the 2015 Hornets team in game-like conditions in the
annual four team Jamboree, hosted this year by Chillicothe.
The format had each team with the ball on the 40 yard
line and 12 consecutive offensive plays with no punting or kicking. If you
failed to make a first down, or had a turnover, you started again at the
40 yard line. There was no official score kept in the game.
Hornets coach Phil Willard said he saw some good
things. "We had some really good hitting but also some things we need to
improve on."
"We were pretty vanilla with what we did, but we're
still pleased with the effort of the kids and the work we've done.
However, we've got a lot of work to do before we play Marshall next week."
Chillicothe opened the Jamboree against Grain Valley,
beating them two scores to none. Chillicothe had a 6 yard touchdown run
from Fullback Kyle Ross and on the very next play, Quarterback Brett Young
hit Running Back Mason Hayward for a 40-yard pass play. On defense,
Lineman Dillon Swope made a fumble recovery.
In game two, Chillicothe exclusively used their
Junior Varsity players in another 2-0 win over Smithville. Chillicothe's
Brett Shaffer scored on a 6 yard run, and Quarterback Jack Willard
connected with fellow Sophomore Jonathan Burk for an 11 yard touchdown
pass. On defense, Sophomore Adler Marshall had an interception. |

In the final contest,
Chillicothe faced Richmond in a battle of undefeated teams. Richmond
started on offense first and on their final play found the end zone on a 2
yard run. Chillicothe, however was kept out of the end zone for a 1-0
Richmond win. Chillicothe also suffered an interception, their only
turnover in the Jamboree. |
