Kyle Ross picks up part of his
181 yards in the 3rd quarter |
Last
season, Kyle Ross was known as a top notch linebacker. This year
you can add top notch fullback to that resume. The Hornet
Senior had 19 carries for 181 yards and two touchdowns in a
41-13 win at Marshall to open the 2015 football season.
After a short punt on Marshall's first possession, Ross
scored midway through the first quarter on a five yard run to
cap a 28 yard drive.
On Chillicothe's next possession, Senior Halfback Mason
Hayward repeated his feat from last year when he took the ball
71 yards down the right sideline for a one play score. |
The Hornets led
14-7 at halftime, but Ross put them on the board again in the third
quarter on a six yard run, followed by a Preston Hayes three yard run to go
up 28-7.
Marshall's Zach Maupin, who accounted for 217 of his
team's 274 total yards, broke free on a 45 yard touchdown. Maupin
had 78 of the team's 135 yards rushing and passed for 139 yards but no
touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, Cade Snyder scored on a five
yard run and Brett Young connected with a wide open Tyler Garcia for
a 33 yard touchdown pass, the only pass completion in Chillicothe's
three attempts.
The Hornets had success with their ground and pound
rushing attack with ten running backs contributing to the 330 yards
on the ground. The Offensive Line for Chillicothe was a key
contributor in the match up, wearing down Marshall as the game went
on, opening up big holes for their running backs.
The win marks the seventh time in eight years that
Chillicothe has beaten Marshall in the season opener.
