The Hornets
used a strong defense and the legs of Kyle Ross to beat St
Joseph Benton on the Hornets Senior night, 20-6. Senior Fullback
Kyle Ross was the offensive workhorse with 32 carries for 166
yards and two touchdowns. The performance put Ross over the
1,000 yard mark for the season.
The Benton Cardinals had their own workhorse in
Sophomore Cooper Burton who went 15 of 39 for 175 yards pass,
one touchdown and one interception.
After a scoreless first quarter, Chillicothe
scored midway through the second on a Kyle Ross 12 yard run.
Jack Willard's PAT was blocked for a 6-0 score that stood up
into halftime.
Chillicothe took the second half kick off and
went 57 yards in just 4 plays, capped by Cade Snyder's pass to a
wide open Tyler Garcia who went untouched into the end zone. The
2 point conversion pass failed. Later in the third quarter a 42
yard field goal attempt by Walker Graves hit the bottom right
corner of the uprights and bounced out, no good.
Chillicothe stopped the next Benton drive, but
the Cardinal's punt was downed on the 1 yard line. Chillicothe
failed to pick up a first down and a short punt gave Benton the
ball at the |
24 yard line. 3 plays later the
Burton Brothers connected for six, Sophomore Cooper to Junior
Devon for a 23 yard touchdown pass. The two point PAT was no
good.
Chillicothe put up an insurance touchdown midway
through the fourth quarter when Kyle Ross ended a 62 yard drive
with a 3 yard touchdown run. Snyder's pass to Garcia worked for
the two point conversion for the final 20-6 score.
On defense, Snyder picked off a pass for the only
turnover in the game.
Chillicothe improves to 6-3 overall and ends the MEC season
at 4-3. Chillicothe is the #2 seed in the district and hosts
Cameron Friday night in the first round of the District
Tournament, at 7:00pm
