The Chillicothe Hornets varsity participated in the
eight team Cameron Invitational Friday, April 7 (Chillicothe,
Cameron, LeBlond, Warrensburg, Trenton, Warrensburg, Lafayette
County, Savannah). The Hornets top two players, seniors Max
Anderson and Jacob Henington, after receiving the number four
seed, struggled. They were defeated by the eventual
consolation champions from Warrensburg (who lost to the
overall champions from Maryville-Brady Archer/Chance
Hermelink- 7-9). Their second loss was to a good LeBlond duo.
It was a disappointing day for the seniors, but is motivation
for the next opportunity.
Senior Hornet Zach Blixt received his first varsity
experience of the season. He began with Savannah's number one
player Tage Young (Zach is Chillicothe number 8). In his
consolation match, Hunter Martin played consistently. Zach is
athletic and has a good forehand. Zach will play in the Benton
Tournament and is always ready when the opportunity arises.
Senior Hornet number five, Nick Malloy, had a good day.
After beating Cameron's number two player, Nick was halted by
the number one seed John Lierz (eventual single's champion).
Nick took a quick lead and eventually held on to beat Krumme
(Savannah number three). It took another number one player,
this one from Warrensburg to end Nick's day.
Sophomore Tyler Maasdam and Senior Bryce Larson entered
the day undefeated on the season (3-0). After a decisive 8-4
win over the Trenton team, the Hornets lost to the number two
seed and eventual fourth place team from LeBlond. Maasdam and
Larson played their best tennis against Lafayette County, but
couldn't repeat the effort allowing the Trenton team to avenge
their earlier loss.
