The Chillicothe Hornets Boys' Tennis team (2-2) defeated St Joseph Benton 5-4 at Noyes Courts in St Joseph. Seniors Max Anderson and Jacob Henington were able to manage the wind and keep a lead over Horn and Hailey. Senior Bryce Larson and sophomore Tyler Maasdam continue to play well together. The duo is 4-0 in dual match play and 6-2 on the season. After falling down 1-6, Seniors Dalton Rosenbach and Nick Malloy, fought back to 5-6 before giving in to the Benton team.
Entering singles play, the Hornets held a narrow 2-1 lead. Bryce Larson took the court first and finished first leaving little doubt of the outcome. Hornet Tyler Maasdam stormed out to a 4-0 lead, before his Cardinal opponent fought back to 3-4. Maasdam regained control, giving Chillicothe a 4-1 advantage. Tyler is now 4-0 in singles competition on the season. Nick Malloy clinched the victory for the Hornets with his 8-2 win. It took two number one players to take Nick out of the Cameron tournament and he continues his determined singles play. The fact that the match had already been decided didn't reduce the tension in the other three matches. Max Anderson played an experienced player in Bostyn Horn. Horn has been playing in the number one position for three years and Max has played four matches at number one. Jacob Henington and Dalton Rosenbach played hard fought matches, but in the end the Cardinal opponents pulled away.
