Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Girls Golf team (1-1)
finished eighth in the 12 team Best Ball Tournament held at the Mozingo
Golf Course in Maryville. Each team was allowed six players (three, two
person teams) and the top two best ball scores from each school were added
for a team total. Chillicothe used the scores from Hannah Sherrow and Lexi
Hargrave (109) and from Riley Brobst and Lauren Price (118) for a score of
227. Savannah took first place with a 180 followed by Gallatin's score of
182. Bree Barnett of Tarkio won the individual medalist, with a score of
89. Delaney McKnight of Savannah finished second with a 91. Megan Cox and
Taylor Rardon of Savannah shot an 88 for the lowest best ball score.
The score of 109 placed Hannah Sherrow and Lexi
Hargrave at 17 out of the 35 team field. Hannah Sherrow's individual score
of 120 placed her 27th in the field of 71 players. Lexi Hargrave shot a
123 for 31st place. Lauren Price place 36th with a score of 128, followed
by Riley Brobst in 37th place with 129. Maddie Lamp shot a 137 and Hannah
Haakonstad a 149 for 46th and 57th place respectively. The third best ball
Hornet duo of Lamp and Haakonstad shot a combined best ball score of 132.
The Mozingo course, along with the heat, proved
to be a tough test for the Hornets. Despite being the first eighteen hole
competition for many of the Hornet players, all of them played hard to the
end and found some aspects of their game to improve. The Hornets travel to
Cameron on Tuesday to play Cameron, Benton, and Lafayette.
