Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Girls Golf Team participated in
District 6 competition at Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe. The
Hornets tied for fifth in the 13 team field. Brookfield won the team
competition with a score of 369, followed by Gallatin's score of 409.
Trenton was beat out of second with the fifth player's score, Trenton shot
417, Kirksville 429 and LaPlata tied with the Hornets with a score of 461.
Samantha Cornelius of Penney was the medalist with a round of 82. Two
Brookfield players were tied for runner-up with scores of 89, Emilly Vogel
and Julia Weydert.
The Hornets were led by sophomores and sectional
qualifiers Riley Brobst and Lexi Hargrave. Riley shot a 107 and received a
medal for 15th place overall. Riley continues to hit the ball long off the
tee. The short par 4 eighth is Riley's favorite hole and she parred it
again on Monday. Lexi Hargrave was 19th overall with a score of 111. Lexi
parred holes 8, 11, and 14. Lexi has been the most consistent golfer
throughout the season. Maddie Lamp shot a 53 on the front nine, but it
wasn't enough to overcome the 67 on the back. Hopeful that the score of
120 would get her through the determined Lamp will have to wait for next
season. Hannah Haakonstad shot a 123 and if it weren't for a couple of
tough holes, in the no stroke limit format, she too would have been in
contention. Lauren Price shot a 129 and continues to improve. Riley Brobst
and Lexi Hargrave will compete at sectionals on Monday, October 3 at the
Kirksville Country Club in Kirksville.
