Coach Robert Long Comments:

The Chillicothe Hornets Girls' golf team (6-3) placed third in the district competition held at the La Plata Country Club. The Hornets team score of 403 was 58 strokes better than their 2016 fifth place performance. Kirksville finished first with 381 and Gallatin placed second with 390. Despite not getting the automatic team qualification, all five of the Hornets had qualifying scores. Any team qualifying four or more players is able to compete as a team in the sectional competition. Samantha Cornelius of Penney High School was the medalist with a score of 80 followed by Abby Boyer of Kirksville with a score of 82.
Freshman Hallie Jones placed third overall with a score of 86. Hallie parred holes five, eight, nine, eleven, twelve, fifteen and birdied seventeen. Junior Maddie Lamp placed twelfth with a score of 100. Maddie parred holes number twelve, thirteen, and sixteen. The top fifteen receive medals and are on the all district team. Junior Hannah Haakonstad joined Hallie and Maddie on the list with a score of 108 for a tie for fourteenth place. Junior Lexi Hargrave shot a 109 for a sixteenth place finish. Senior Jensen Simmer shot a 112 which tied her for 23rd place. Jensen parred holes eight and sixteen. The top two teams (Kirksville and Gallatin) receive automatic sectional qualifications. The top fifteen players not including the top two teams receive individual qualifications. From third place to twenty third place, all of the Hornets will compete at sectionals at Green Hills Golf Course on Monday, October 2.
