Excelsior Springs' Sean O'Connor hit a top of the key trey
with 17 seconds left in the game to give his Tigers a 52-50
win over Chillicothe in Excelsior Springs. The Tigers built a
seven point lead midway through the fourth quarter before
Chillicothe's Bryce Young hit back-to-back treys as part of
his 9-0 run to give the Hornets a two point lead. Excelsior
Springs took the lead back on a three point play. Young again
delivered a one point lead before the game winning trey.
Young finished with 27 points on the night including
all 13 of the team's points in the final quarter. Chillicothe
had a chance for the win but a well-defended Alex Thompson
trey from the left wing in the final seconds rimmed out.
Excelsior Springs had three players in double
figures: Logan Butler with 16 points, 6'8" Michael Birkeness
with 15 including 10 in the second half, and Sean O'Connor
with 12 including 4 of 6 from three point land. The Tigers
finished 6 of 12 from behind the arc.
Chillicothe was 2 of 6 from three point land and 14 of
20 at the free throw line. |
