(Story by Coach Shannon
Grable)
It was a tale of two games. The one that allowed the
Fighting Irish to take a 4-0 lead with 20 minutes left in the game.
Then the last 15 minutes that saw the Hornets come back to make it
4-3 with 5 minutes remaining before Lafayette got a closing goal
with 1:50 left on the clock to make the final tally 5-3 in favor of
the Fighting Irish.
Laine Saunders got the late rally started with a ball
free in the Lafayette box to make the score 4-1 with just over 15
minutes remaining. A few minutes later Laine was able to convert a
penalty kick to make it 4-2. A beautifully played ball by, you
guessed it, Laine Saunders to a running Grant Peterson allowed Grant
to have a nice finish with about 7 minutes remaining to close the
gap to 4-3.
With the team sending numbers up to try and get the
equalizing goal #17 Dalvi Acevedo scored his 4th goal of the game to
end the scoring. Lafayette also had a goal by Geovanny Parra.
The loss dropped the Hornets to 0-3 on the season, but
gave them every reason for optimism for the rest of the season. This
team never quits and with that attitude good things are on the
horizon. Troy Toedebush and Jimmy Chapman shared time in the net for
the Hornets. |
