(Story by Coach Shannon
Grable)
Nothing like making a 2 hour bus trip to
then have to sit on the bus for an additional 1 ½ hours. Then to
start play on a wet field with one goal having mud and standing
water. Then to have to stop play 25 minutes in and wait another 30
minutes for lightning. Throw in the fact 3 starters were out with
illness and injury and you have some difficult circumstances to
overcome before you even start play.
Well, we still got a game in. It was nice to finally
play again after a week long layoff. Miles McLemore started the game
off by scoring on a break-away 2 minutes into the game to make the
score 1-0 in favor of Chillicothe. It was not a long lasting lead as
Maryville got on the board 3 minutes later off a free kick just
outside the penalty box to knot the score at 1-1 on a putback by
Dexter Barmann.
A few more free kicks just outside the Chillicothe
penalty area allowed the Spoofhounds to take a 4 -1 lead when
lightning struck. After a 30 minute delay in the action the game
resumed. Maryville was able to score one more before half to make it
5-1 at halftime. Maryville goals were scored by Kalvin Talmadge,
Dexter Barmann and Tyler Florea.
However, the Hornets would not back down. By sticking
with the game plan and playing with a sense of urgency the Hornets
were able to create scoring opportunities. Unfortunately they did
not result in points on the board. The Hornet defenders did not stop
playing the entire game but a few late goals by Dexter Barmann and
Danny Steiner created the final score of 7-1. Dexter Barmann of
Maryville finished with 3 goals in the game.
The defeat leaves the Hornets at 2-4 (1-0 conference). |
