(Story by Coach Shannon
Grable)
Varsity record: 2-5 overall (1-1 conference)
The game started out as a defensive struggle with both
sides creating some opportunities, but nothing going into the net.
However, Chillicothe would start the scoring on a set piece just
outside the Leblond penalty area. Grant Peterson played a nice ball
across the top of the box to Miles McLemore who slammed it home just
outside the arms of the Leblond keeper to make the score 1-0
Hornets. The game would stay 1-0 in favor of Chillicothe at
halftime.
To start the second half Leblond showed the adjustments
they made by attacking with long passes to the outside. On two
separate occasions the Golden Eagles were able to find unmarked
players on the backside of the defense with nicely placed crosses to
take a 2-1 lead. A mis-played throw in led to a 3-1 lead by the
Leblond squad. Danny Sommers would convert 2 of the shots with
Daniel Cobb scoring on the third shot.
The Hornets looked to get back on track but a penalty
kick was awarded to the Golden Eagles that led to a 4-1 lead. The
penalty shot was converted by Danny Sommers to give him a hat trick
for the night. However, the Hornets would not go down quietly. A
beautifully played free kick from 35 yards out by Laine Saunders
just made it under the crossbar and over the leaping Eagle keeper to
make the score 4-2. The Hornets would go on to have many
opportunities on goal, but they were unable to capitalize on
multiple chances in front of the net. The Chillicothe Boys never
quit playing and continue to play until the final whistle.
The team is back in action at home against the
Lafayette Fighting Irish at 4:00 pm at Danner Park. Varsity contest
to be followed by JV. |
