Chillicothe Boys soccer in first game of
Excelsior Springs Tournament:
Chillicothe --- 3
Benton ---- 1
Record: 5-5 overall (2-1 MEC)
The Chillicothe Boys Soccer team, playing in it’s first
ever tournament, posted a 3-1 victory of the Benton Cardinals on
Wednesday afternoon. Grant Peterson got the scoring started with a
breakaway goal at the 18 minute mark of the first half. The Hornets
would keep the pressure going with 2 scores by Miles McLemore. The
2nd one started by a great penetrating pass by Colton Whiteside to
spring him free at the top of the box.
Benton would get it’s lone score in the first half at
the 33 minute mark to make the score 3-1. The second half was a back
and forth contest with both squads getting opportunities for scores.
However, the Hornet defense would not bend and shutout the Cardinals
in the second half. Troy Toedebusch and Jimmy Chapman shared time in
the net for the Hornets who are now 5-5 on the season.
The team plays Savannah in the 2nd game of the
tournament Thursday at Excelsior Springs at 5 pm. On Saturday the
team plays the host Excelsior Springs Tigers at noon.
