Chillicothe Boys Soccer @ Excelsior Springs
Tourney
Chillicothe --- 0
Savannah --- 1
Record: 5-6 overall (2-1 MEC)
Next game in tournament: Saturday at noon vs. Excelsior Springs
(record: 13-2)
In a tight game that saw each team have opportunities
to score, it was a loose ball in front of the Hornet net that was
the difference. The Hornet defense played a wonderful game
throughout by keeping the Savage offense off track. It was just that
one time the defense lapsed that allowed the Savages to capitalize.
The offense had many opportunities to knot the score or
even take the lead but just could not find the back of the net. The
Savage keeper made 3 outstanding saves that kept what appeared to be
sure goals from going in. The offense had one of it’s most dominant
halves of the season, but the scoreboard would not suggest the same.
One of the players who had a solid game by directing the offense was
Brice Griffin. His play in the middle allowed us to possess the ball
more and get our offensive sets going. Laine Saunders would again
provide many free kick opportunities, but just no one on the other
end to cash in.
Jimmy Chapman, getting the start in goal, had 2 great
saves of his own to keep the Savages off the board in the first
half. Troy Toedebusch had a solid 2nd half and helped to create a
few scoring opportunities with nicely punted balls towards the
forwards.
With the team showing that it is getting better as the
season goes on, only good things are yet to come for the Hornet
squad.
