For the second straight week Chillicothe fought back from two
turnovers and penalties to beat Kirksville 37-20 on the road
and improve to 2-0.
Chillicothe scored first in the 1st quarter on Senior
Fullback Nick Plummer's 12 yard run. Plummer finished with 150
yards and three touchdowns on offense.
Kirksville picked up momentum on the first play from
scrimmage following the kick off on a 40 yard run by Harrison
Dollins. The run sparked a Tigers score 6 plays later.
Chillicothe answered on the last play of the quarter to lead
14-7 after one.
Kirksville set up their second score when Dalton
McClanahan picked off a pass that was being bobbled by the
Hornets receiver. It took one play to cover the 16 yards and
tie the game.
Chillicothe continued to use strong play by their
offensive and defensive lines to score on a Nick Plummer 1
yard run, and a Jacob Lewis 1 yard run on the last play of the
half to lead 28-14.
Kirksville pooch kicked the 2nd half kick off and
recovered it on the 37 yard line to set up their 3rd and final
score to close the gap to 28-20.
Chillicothe Junior Quarterback Jacob Lewis hit Alex
Thompson for a 39 yard touchdown pass in the fourth, and
scored a safety when a punt snap went over the head of the
Kirksville punter, who tried to run it out of the end zone but
was tackled for the two point safety.
Freshman kicker Alan Kline continued to impress,
kicking 5 of 5 extra points. |
