Records were set and none of them good at the Hornets fell to
St Joseph Lafayette 45-7 in the worst homecoming defeat in 65
years of record keeping. The Irish' Tim Nelson racked up 318
yards rushing on 23 carries, just four yards short of the
record held by Trenton's Brian Grimes in 1990.
Lafayette scored on their first possession and after
forcing Chillicothe four and out for the second straight time,
the Irish lined up for a 37 yard field goal attempt.
Chillicothe's Guy Vinson crashed around the end and blocked
the kick which was scooped up by Austin Hatfield at the 30
yard line and returned to the eight. Four plays later
Chillicothe tied the score.
That proved to be the only highlight for Chillicothe as
Tim Nelson and company chewed up yards easily and Ian Toalson
and company on defense held Chillicothe's offense in check
most of the night.
In addition to the yardage, Nelson found the end zone
four times in the evening. The Irish led 27-7 at halftime and
39-7 after three quarters.
Lafayette had 39 carries for 451 yards and went 5/8 for
60 yards passing while Chillicothe manages just 128 yards
rushing, most of those from Guy Vinson. Two quarterbacks
teamed up to go 4/15 for 36 yards passing
Lafayette improves to 6-1 overall and Chillicothe falls
to 3-4.
