The Chillicothe Hornets hit key free throws late in the game to beat top seed Platte County 66-64 in overtime in the Class 4 District 16 semi-final game at Chillicothe.
     Chillicothe broke Platte County's press early to control the tempo and force Platte County adjust to Chillicothe's style of basketball. The Hornets  trailed the entire first quarter and traded leads with Platte County most of the second quarter to train by two at intermission.
     Platte County turned up the heat early in the third to take a six point lead, the biggest in the game by either team. Chillicothe's Jacob McKiddy stepped up to break the Pirates momentum with a trey to cut the lead to six. Chillicothe trailed by two heading into the see-saw fourth quarter. Chillicothe Tyler Clampitt hit two key free throws to take a a one point lead with 46 seconds left. Platte County hit a free throw to tie the game and Chillicothe missed a trey at the top of the key to send it to overtime.
     Tyler Midgyett hit a reverse lay-up with 1:50 left for the first points in overtime. After that, Chillicothe was spectacular from the free throw line, hitting 8 out of 10 including the final seven to keep the lead.
     Chillicothe will play for their first district championship since 2005 while the top seed Platte County Pirates end the season at 16-10.
