The Chillicothe
Hornets put together a strong fourth quarter to secure an 8-point
win over South Harrison in front of large Hornet crowd. Chillicothe
trailed by 2 points heading into the fourth quarter but 6-5 Junior
Ryan Smith helped boost Chillicothe with 11 points in the quarter.
Smith had two free throws with 4:26 left to give Chillicothe a 1
point lead that they would never relinquish.
Smith followed the free throws with a baseline trey for
a 4 point lead. With 1:06 left in the game, Smith brought down the
house with a two handed dunk. Moments later a turnover led to a Nate
McKiddy lay up to give Chillicothe a 6 point lead. The Hornets held
on and finished with 2 free throws to pick up their second win of
the season.
South Harrison Senior Kaid Hendren had an outstanding
game with 27 points, Hornets Coach Tim Cool pointed to a strong
defense led by Tyler Clampitt, sound teamwork and balance that
helped his team win. The Hornets played ten players and eight
scored, led by Smith's 12 points.
The Hornets led by 10 points in the second before South
Harrison went on a 10-0 run. The rest of the game was back and forth
with Chillicothe building a 7 point lead in the 3rd and South
Harrison building a four point lead early in the 4th before the
Hornets took the lead for good midway through the quarter.
