It's been a difficult
February for the Hornets basketball team, but Chillicothe turned
around their fortunes with a 41-36 win at Marshall. Chillicothe led
after one 8-4 but Marshall hit three treys as part of a 14 point
second quarter to lead by four at the half.
Marshall hit the first bucket of the third quarter to lead by
six but Chillicothe fought back to tie the game with 2:30 left in
the third. A Conner Cooley trey late in the third gave Marshall a
one point lead heading into the fourth
After trading baskets, Tyler Clampitt hit a three point
shot off an inside-outside play to give the Hornets a 2 point lead.
It was the only trey made by the Hornets after missing their first
13 perimeter shots. Marshall answered with their own three, but that
would be their last lead of the game.
A five point Chillicothe lead was closed to one thanks
to another Marshall trey and one free throw, but with 24 seconds
left Chillicothe Freshman Nate McKiddy hit two free throws for a
three point lead. After two missed free throws by the Owls, Tyler
Clampitt hit two free throws to wrap up his 9 point fourth quarter
and give the Hornets a 5 point lead with 9.6 seconds left.
Marshall has played with out four year starter Alex
Maupin who was lost to a broken femur in December.
