Tyler Long hands the ball
to the official after scoring
Chillicothe's only TD |
Maryville scored almost at
will through the air and the ground, while their defense
held Chillicothe to under 150 total yards in a 49-7
exhibition of football domination at the expense of the
Hornets.
Chillicothe opened the game with a modest drive that
stalled. A botched quick kick on 3rd down gave Maryville
the ball at the 42. Brody McMahon needed one play to score
and the route was on.
Maryville QB Jonathan Baker rushed for two scores and
passed for a third one as the hounds found the end zone on
every drive but one, which ended in a fumble by one of the
reserve running backs in the 4th quarter. Chillicothe took
over on the 19 and scored their only touchdown of the
night on a Tyler Long 8 yard run.
Chillicothe didn't make many mistakes, they committed
no turnovers and had just two penalties for 10 yards, both
were committed late in the fourth quarter by the Hornet
reserves.
For Chillicothe, the Hornets are
still looking for healthy players to contribute. The Hornets
MASH unit added a couple more to its growing list, the extent
of the injuries not fully know yet.
The Hornets ground game continued to struggle with an
8-yard run by Cole Nichols in the second quarter being the
longest Hornets rush in the game. The team finished with
29 carries for 84 yards. A strong defense cut down the Hornet
passing game, with 6 completions for only 51 yards including a
31 yard catch in the fourth by Gillen Gates.
The Hornets now host Cameron for Homecoming on Friday, Sept.
