In a
game of two plodding offenses, it was Chillicothe's Tyler
Clampitt who made they key play, on defense, to give the
Hornets their first win on the season, beating Cameron
21-10.
Clampitt had two interceptions including one that was
returned for a key touchdown late in the first half to
give the Hornets some much needed momentum.
Cameron scored first on their second possession with a 39 yard field
goal. Chillicothe responded on their next drive when the
Hornets used 8 straight running plays to score on a DJ Gannan
1 yard run to take a 7-3 lead early in the 2nd quarter. |
Cameron running back Joe Pratt picked up 43 of his 67
yards when his run broke loose from the Hornet secondary
for the touchdown and a 10-7 lead.
Cameron picked off a Tyler Clampitt pass but returned
the favor two plays later when Clampitt intercepted it near
mid field and took it down the sidelines to the house with 9
seconds left for the 14-10 lead. If that wasn't enough
momentum, Cameron fumbled the kick off return to Chillicothe
with 2 seconds left in the half. Clampitt took a knee to end
the half
The second half featured more drives that would stall
out for both teams. The Hornets did put together an 11 play,
84 yard touchdown drive that ended with DeEll Midgyett finding
the end zone on a 16 yard run.
The Cameron Dragons had two more drives but one stalled
and force a punt and the second ended with Clampitt's
second interception and long return. The Hornets then ran out
the final 4 minutes of the game to pick up their first win of
the season. |
