The Lafayette Irish used a big line, quick backs and
big plays to down Chillicothe 44 to 7 in St Joseph.
Chillicothe held Lafayette to a field goal on their
first drive, but the flood gates opened in the second
quarter. After Chillicothe's drive into Lafayette
territory sputtered at the 42, the Hornets punted with
Lafayette taking over on the 28 yard line. The Irish
scored on the first play of the second quarter on a one
yard run. A 57 yard run on the 2nd play of the drive was
the big play for the Irish.
Defensive Tackle Tommy Kincaid recovered a mid air
fumble to stop an Irish drive but Chillicothe failed to
make a first down and punted. The Irish scored again on an
11 yard run, then following a Chillicothe fumble on their
first play, Lafayette went just six yards to open up a
22-0 score midway through the second.
Chillicothe mounted a drive later in the 2nd thanks to
runs of 15 and 55 yards by Tyler Long, but the drive
sputtered out at the 10 yard line. The Irish's Jurell
Green took the pitch on their first play, turned the right
corner and went 90 yards untouched for the score.
Chillicothe was down 30-0 at the half.
The Irish were far from done. The fielded the kick off
and bobbled it, but Kenny Grant recovered and went 75
yards for the kick off return touchdown and the running
clock.
Chillicothe took over late in the third and went 68
yards for their only score of the night with a 4 yard DJ
Gannan run. A 14 yard pass to Zach Alperin and a 28 yard
run by DeEll Midgyett were the big plays of the drive.
The Irish scored one last time when a reserve running
back went 30 yards for the score on his only carry of the
game. The Hornets had the ball on Lafayette's 18 yard line
but ran out of time before finding the end zone. |
