It was a familiar story for the Chillicothe Hornets: an
opponent with big-strike play capabilities and a stiff
defense taking on a young and injury riddled Hornets
football team. While the score shows a 41-0 win for
Savannah, it doesn't show the heart and determination
exhibited by the Chillicothe Hornets.
After holding Chillicothe to 4 plays and punt to start
the game. Savannah used 9 runs and a pass to drive 71
yards for the score midway through the first quarter.
Chillicothe force Savannah to punt on their next
possession, then had a fumble recovery from Elliott Keller
to halt another Savannah drive.
The Savages did score on a 10 yard pass from Zane to
Tyler Wilt, but the Hornets held the #2 ranked Class 4
team to just 13 first half points.
The Hornets, playing with out several players due to a
variety of reasons, continued their gutsy play at the
start of the 2nd half. The Hornet players and coaching
staff thought they had held Savannah to 4 plays and out at
the start of the 2nd half. However, some confusion on the
spot of the ball on the 4th down attempt gave Savannah a
key first down. Despite a fiery discussion between the
Hornet coaches and the officials, the spot stood and it
was more than Chillicothe could overcome.
Savannah went on to score 3 plays later on a 54 yard
pass and the Hornets were never the same. The Savages
would scored three touchdowns in the 4th quarter on a 10
yard run, an 8 yard pass and a 63 yard run by their back
up quarterback.
Chillicothe did have flashes of great play including
two interceptions by Defensive Back Tyler Clampitt, but
couldn't get inside the Savannah 30 yard line. |
