The Chillicothe Hornets scored on their opening drive,
but things went down hill after that and the Hornets lost
on Senior Night to Smithville 43-6. Chillicothe scored on
their opening drive, going 80 yards in 15 plays with Tyler
Clampitt finding Eric Rutledge with a 15 yard touchdown
pass. After a delay of game penalty, the PAT was missed
and Chillicothe enjoyed a 6-0 lead.
The fired-up Hornets held Smithville on three downs and
forced a fumble on fourth down, but on the next play
Chillicothe coughed it up to Smithville and the Hornets
momentum suffered. Smithville started using a ball control
offense with old fashioned smash-mouth football to score
the next 43 points in the game.
Another game changer was late in the first half
when Chillicothe punted the ball to Smithville with 1:22
left in the half. The Warriors worked the clock perfectly,
going 72 yards in 8 plays and 1:08 to increase the lead to
22-6. Smithville took the opening kick off and drove 75
yards in 11 plays to score early in the 2nd half, and it
was over after that.
Chillicothe continued to suffer bumps and
bruises, including a neck muscle injury to starting QB/DB
Tyler Clampitt in the 2nd half that kept him out of the
rest of the game.
Smithville picked up 443 yards of offense in 58 plays
while Chillicothe had 221 yards in 44 plays. Mason Palmer
led the Hornets with 102 yards including a 44 yard scamper
in the 2nd half. Smithville had 100+ yard rushing games
from both their Quarterback and their Tailback. |
