Chillicothe 21, Benton 0
<Game Pictures>
Chillicothe used the legs of DJ Gannan and three
interceptions by Tyler Clampitt to beat Benton 21-0
in St Joseph.
After each team traded punts on their first two
possessions, Chillicothe used a 46 yard run by DJ Gannan
(22/130) to strike first late in the 1st quarter. On Benton's first
play from scrimmage, DeEll Midgyett had an interception at
the Benton 23. The Hornets scored five plays later on a
Mason Palmer 6 yard run and Chillicothe was up 14-0 early
in the 2nd quarter.
Disaster struck for Benton on their next drive when
their star tailback Dontae White was helped off the field
with a leg injury. He would not return to the game, after
getting 56 yards on 10 carries in just over a quarter's
worth of work.
Chillicothe's defense answered time and time again,
with Clampitt picking off three passes deep in Chillicothe
territory. Benton lost another scoring chance late in the
1st half when they had a 1st and Goal from the 2.
Chillicothe's Middle Linebacker Cole Nichols dropped the
running back for a three yard loss on the first play, had
a penalty on the second play and had no gain on third down
when the half ended.
Chillicothe's final score came in the fourth period on
a 14 play, 93 yard drive that ended with Clampitt finding
Zach Alperin in the end zone for the score. Alperin caught
three passes in the drive for 60 of the 93 yards. |
