Spectacular
perimeter shooting and key free throws in the final minutes helped
the Chillicothe Hornets beat St Joseph Bishop LeBlond 61-57 for the
3rd place trophy in the LeBlond Tournament.
Chillicothe hit a quick three to start the game and
that would be a sign of things to come. By the time the final
whistle sounded, a total of seven Chillicothe players hit a total of
10 treys out of 14 attempts.
Chillicothe led by one after the first quarter
but trailed the entire second quarter. The Hornet's 6'5" Ryan Smith
hit a bucket with 1:15 left in the third to give Chillicothe a 1
point lead that they would hold the rest of the game. Smith followed
up the deuce with a trey to make it a four point lead.
The Hornets led by nine points in the fourth, a
lead that LeBlond whittled down to one. Two Chillicothe free throws
made it a three point game. LeBlond missed a trey with 20 seconds
left and followed that with a foul.
Tyler Clampitt hit one of two free throws. A LeBlond
lay up with 10 seconds left made it a two point game. A quick foul
sent McKiddy to the line with 9.1 seconds left. The Hornet Sophomore
made both free throws to make it a two possession game and give the
Hornets a pay-back tournament win over LeBlond. The Golden Eagles
beat Chillicothe for the consolation trophy of the Savannah
tournament in early December. |
