Chillicothe Sophomore Guard Mason Hayward hit two treys in the final
36 seconds to boost Chillicothe to a 58-55 win over St Joseph Benton
on "Jam the Gym" night. Chillicothe led by single digits most of the
first half, but it was a back and forth third quarter with multiple
tied scores and lead changed. Benton went on a 10-0 run in the
fourth to take a five point lead.
Hayward tied the game with a trey with 36 seconds
left. Benton hit one of a two shot foul to lead by one. With 18
seconds left, Hayward hit another trey to give Chillicothe a two
point lead.
As Benton drove to the basket, Chillicothe's
Trent Moore took a charge with 8.8 seconds left. An immediate foul
by Benton on the in bounds pass sent Nate McKiddy to the line where
he scored his only point of the night, making one of two free
throws. Benton drew nothing but air on a trey with a second left.
Chillicothe grabbed the rebound to end the game.
Chillicothe improves to 3-0 in MEC play and 11-7
overall. |
