The game may not have been for a conference or district
title, but on Senior Night in the Cameron Gym, two MEC foes
battled in a game reminiscent of the epic battles of 15 years
ago as Chillicothe held off Cameron to pick up a 63-49
conference win on the road.
With rowdy student bodies from both schools cheering on
their teams, Cameron jumped to an early lead when Kody
Peterson hit back to back treys to start the game. After two
point baskets, Chillicothe went on a 10-0 run to take a 4
point lead. Cameron would fight back to tie it up a few
minutes later, but after that it would be Chillicothe's lead
the rest of the game.
In a traditional outside shooters domain, Cameron was
on fire from behind the arc, hitting 6 of 8 treys in the first
half. However, the old adage of live by the three, die by the
three came into play when Cameron hit just one of 15 treys in
the second half.
Chillicothe led by double figures a good part of the
game but Cameron was always with in striking distance, closing
it to six points several times in the second half. Chillicothe
used a balance of inside and outside shooting to keep Cameron
at bay, with all five Hornet starters scoring between 7 and 15
points.
The win gave Chillicothe their 4th MEC win of the year
with a game against Smithville on Monday wrapping up the MEC
schedule. It's the most conference wins in a season by
Chillicothe in 10 years. |
