Chillicothe came from behind to beat Platte County
69-67 in overtime in the district tournament opener at
Lafayette. Mason Hayward hit a trey with 32 seconds left in
regulation to send the game into overtime. Hayward hit a
season high 20 points while playing with a jammed thumb the
entire game.
Platte County built a 6 point lead in overtime but
Chillicothe, behind Tyler Clampitt, went to work and ended the
overtime on an 8-0 run including a slam dunk to pick up
the win. Clampitt, who had just two points at halftime,
finished with 18, including 8 of the 11 points in overtime.
Chillicothe Senior post player Ryan Smith put on a
rebounding clinic, picking up 13 boards, often
in heavy traffic with Platte County Pirates hanging on him.
All Chillicothe players that played, scored in the game.
Platte County's 6'5" tank Jesse Eggers was held to 17
points including just two in overtime, after lighting up
Chillicothe for 26 in the Savannah Tournament in early
December.
Chillicothe will take on top seed and host team
Lafayette on Thursday at 5:30pm
