The Chillicothe Hornets forced one interception and two
fumbles to help spoil the Cameron Homecoming 17-14 in a
test of two defenses. Chillicothe's Tyler Clampitt picked
off a Dakota Calhoun on the third play of the game to give
Chillicothe the ball at the Cameron 36 yard line. Seven
plays later Clampitt found Hayden Major for a 10 yard
touchdown pass.
The two teams traded long drives in the second quarter
with Chillicothe going up 14-0 midway through the second
only to have Cameron close it to 14-7 late in the second
quarter on their own long drive.
Cameron tied the game early in the third when they
forced Chillicothe to punt. The Dragons Kody Peterson
fielded the punt then went 59 yards down his own sideline
to score and tie the game 14-14.
Chillicothe Junior Defensive End Matt Shaffer
recovered his second fumble on the night ,this time on the
7 yard line. Four plays later Zach Alperin kicked what
turned out to be the game winning 26 yard field goal.
Cameron had a chance to tie the score with just over 4
minutes to play but a 41 yard field goal attempt was
tipped by the Hornets DeEll Midgyett. Chillicothe then ran
10 straight running plays to run out the clock and improve
to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in MEC play. |
