10/04/2013 - Lafayette 62, Chillicothe 28
<Game Pictures>
The
Chillicothe Hornets spotted Lafayette the first 20 points
in the ball game and couldn't catch up, losing to the pass
happy Irish 62-28. Right about know you're wondering when
was the last time someone hung 60+ on Chillicothe. Yes, I
know the answer and no, I'm not telling. It doesn't really
matter.
Chillicothe started the game on offense, and was forced to
punt on a 4th and 11. Lafayette Senior Tyler Burgess
fielded the punt and returned it down the sidelines 52
yards for a quick 6-0 lead.
After forcing Chillicothe 3-and-punt again, Lafayette
returned the kick to the Hornets 41 yard line. Two passes
to Cody Massy got them to the 11 and two runs by Dakota
Pummell got them into the end zone.
Chillicothe's next drive stalled at the 31 and
Lafayette used a 45 yard pass to Burgess to get a first
and goal from the 10. two Drew Cortez Quarterback keepers
made the score 20-0 with 10:53 left in the half.
Chillicothe breathed life into their offense with a 10
play 66 yard drive that ended with an 11 yard Tyler
Clampitt to a wide open Hayden Major in the end zone to
close it to 20-7. The two teams traded touchdowns to make
it 27-14 Lafayette at halftime.
Tyler Clampitt made a spectacular one handed
interception late in the first half to set up the Hornet's
second touchdown. It was his 4th INT of the year and his
13th of his career, setting a new Hornets Career
Interception record.
The Irish scored on their first three possessions of
the 2nd half on a 29 yard pass, a 60 yard pass and a 10
yard pass.
Chillicothe refused to give up, putting together a 77
yard scoring drive and a 79 yard scoring drive to make it
47-28 with 6:50 left in the game. Lafayette responded on a
Cortex touchdown with 4:41 left and on a 39 yard run by a
reserve running back. The Irish elected to go for the two
point conversion with 1:21 left in the game for the final
62-28 score.
There were some positives in the game. In addition to
Clampitt's interception, Gillen Gates also had a fumble
recovery
