The Chillicothe Hornets dialed
their offense back 40 years to beat Benton 35-20 for the
Hornets Senior Night. Chillicothe stuck to a power running
game behind a patchwork offensive line to roll up 275
yards on the ground.
Chillicothe scored on their opening drive, going 59
yards in 10 plays capped by a Walker Thomas 29 yard run.
Thomas started for the injured DeEll Midgyett at the
halfback spot. The 10 plays were all runs including 7 by
Fullback Tyler Long, who finished the night with 32
carries, 187 yards and three touchdowns. Long scored twice
in the second quarter on runs of 17 and 3 yards plus a two
point conversion to build a 20-0 lead.
After a quarterback change, Benton scored just
before half on Dontae' White's 1st of 3 touchdowns for a
20-7 halftime score
The teams traded touchdowns in the second half
with Long's 3rd touchdown in the third quarter and a Tyler
Clampitt to Walker Thomas 32 yard pass in the early 4th
quarter.
With the Chillicothe win and the Fulton loss, the two teams
will meet Oct 31st in Chillicothe for the first round of
District Play |
