The Chillicothe Lady Hornets had just two
field goals in the first quarter but still easily beat the
Excelsior Springs Lady Tigers 50-12. Excelsior Springs was
shut out in the first quarter and marks the fewest points
allowed by Chillicothe in a game since allowing a school
record 10 against Stewartsville in 1982.
Chillicothe used a press defense at times that force
turnovers, but their quickness and Excelsior Springs offensive
woes aided in the final score miss-match. An abundance of
fouls against the Lady Tigers, 10 in the first quarter alone,
gave Chillicothe lots of opportunities to score.
Excelsior Springs didn't until the opening minute of
the 2nd quarter on free throws and didn't score a field goal
until 5:11 left in the half on their only trey of the game. A
2 point field goal in the 3rd and 4th quarters were the only
three buckets made by Excelsior Springs to go with 5 free
throws.
