The
Chillicothe Lady Hornets showed some early game sluggishness
but pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Platte County
46-29 in the opening game of the Class 4 District 16
tournament.
Platte County scored the first point in the game on a
free throw but did little after that, with their first field
goal not coming until 3:35 left in the first quarter. Despite
the cold start, Chillicothe could only build a 9 point lead at
one point in the first quarter.
Platte County road their 6-2 Sophomore post player
Rachael Holden who scored 10 of the team's 13 first half
points. Holden ran into foul trouble when she picked up her
4th foul midway through the 3rd quarter. She returned to the
game in the fourth quarter didn't score again the rest of the
game. After Holden headed to the bench with her fourth foul,
Chillicothe outscored Platte County 21-10 over the final 13:40
of the game.
Chillicothe had balanced scoring once again with Maggie
Graves scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 of the team's 40
rebounds. Whitney Clampitt had two early treys and also had 13
points while Hannah Jones finished with 12.
Chillicothe will have a rematch with Benton in the
semi-finals on Tuesday. Benton edged Chillicothe by 6 points
in the regular season. |
