The Chillicothe Hornets needed last second luck to beat
Savannah 35-33 in a boys Conference game at home. Chillicothe
scored the first four points in the game, but a 7-0 Savannah
run gave them the lead until the middle of the 4th quarter.
Chillicothe tied the game with 5:03 left off two
Mason Hayward Free Throws. Savannah answered with a basket,
followed by a Hayward basket and one free throw to lead by 1
with 4:02 left.
No scoring took place until Savannah hit two free
throws with 42 seconds left. Chillicothe answered with two
Nate McKiddy free throws with 25.9 seconds left.
Savannah ran the clock down but Clayton McGinness
missed a left wing trey with 6 seconds left. Chillicothe's
Walker Graves grabbed the rebound and drew the foul. He missed
both free throws but Cade Snyder grabbed the offensive board,
shoveled it back to Graves who was fouled with 3.4 seconds
left.
Graves made the first to make it a 2 point game but
missed the second and with 2.8 seconds left, Savannah took a
time out, then in bounded the ball up to mid court and took
another time out with 2.4 seconds left.
That's when craziness took over. Following the time out,
Savannah's JT Hart in bounded the ball at mid court in front of
the scorer's table. The play was to toss it to the basket for
an inbound lob play or to inbound it off the glass for a
player to tip it in. Instead, Hart's inbounds pass from mid
court went through the hoop and the net.
Since a player can't make a shot from out of bounds, the ball
was awarded to Chillicothe, still with 2.4 seconds left.
Chillicothe in bounded the ball and ran out the clock for the
win. |
