The Chillicothe Hornets came up just shy of a district
title in a 55-52 loss to Lafayette County aka Higginsville in
the Class 3 District 15 title game at Richmond.
Chillicothe never led in the game and only tied it up
twice in the first half. However, the Hornets stayed with in
striking distance.
Higginsville built a 14 point lead early in the 3rd
quarter but Chillicothe hit key shots late in the 4th with a
deuce, a free throw and a trey to cut the lead to 2 points
with 48 seconds left.
After two Higginsville free throws with 23 seconds
left, Chillicothe's Mason Hayward was fouled on a three point
attempt with 8 seconds left. Hayward made all three free
throws to make the game a 1 point contest.
Chillicothe fouled on the inbounds pass and
Higginsville' made both free throws. Following time outs,
Chillicothe's Hayward launched a top of the key trey with a
defender in his face. The potential game tying shot at the
buzzer hit the left side of the rim and bounced out, ending
the game. |
