Lady Hornets Golf 6th At Platte County
9/7/16 Platte County Invitational

     Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Girls golf team (4-1) participated in the Pirate Invitational Wednesday. The eleven team event was played at the Shiloh Springs Golf Club in Platte City. The Hornets placed sixth with a score of 441. Park Hill and Smithville tied for first place with a 373 (Park Hill won the tie-breaker). Sam Paulak of Park Hill was the medalist, shooting 84 on the par 71 course. Trace Mosby of Smithville was runner up with 86.
Sophomore Maddie Lamp led the Hornets with her best score to-date, 101. Maddie tied for seventeenth in the 50 player field. After a tough start, Lamp pared her fourth hole of the day the par 5 ninth. On the par 3 twelfth, fourteenth and eighteenth, all of her tee shots reached the green, and if not for her shot on fourteen rolling off the back, she would have pared all three of them. Hannah Sherrow continues to improve her game, shooting a 111 for 26th place. Hannah's first hole was her best, shooting par on the par 3 eighth hole. Riley Brobst placed 28th with a 113. Riley pared hole number eleven, the par 4 is the fourth toughest hole on the course. Lexi Hargrave placed 34th with a 116. Lexi had several terrific shots, but her putting let her down a little today. Lexi started on the par 3 seventh with a perfectly placed shot, off the side hill and just passed the hole. Lexi hit the green on all of the par 3's. Hannah Haakonstad was 38th with a 119.
All of the girls improved on last weeks scores. The signature hole, the par 3 eighteenth, all but one made it over the water hazard. All of the players are close to playing at a sectional qualifying level. The team competes on Monday, September 12 at the Sedalia Tournament.
