Chillicothe battled back from a 20 point halftime deficit but
came up one point short in a 50-49 loss to Platte County in
the Savannah Tournament Championship game. Platte County ended
the first half on a 13-0 run, but Chillicothe stepped up their
defensive pressure in the second half.
Platte County's Diondre Ragsdale, who set a
state record earlier in the week when he scored 30 points in
the first quarter against Savannah, finished with 18 points
but had only 2 points the entire second half.
A Jon Burk top of the key three point shot at the end
of the third quarter put Chillicothe down by just 7 points.
The Hornets tied the score late in the game, but
a Platte County basket with one minute left gave them a two
point lead. Walker Graves hit a free throw to make it a one
point game, then Platte County made one out of two free throws
for a 2 point game with 20.7 seconds left.
The
Hornets Westley Brandsgaard was fouled with 1.9 seconds left.
He made the first shot, the second one hit the rim and bounced
into Jon Burk's hands, but a short stick back fell incomplete.
