Four free
throws in the final minute was the deciding factor in a 53-49
Chillicothe win over St Michael the Archangel Catholic High
School in the St Joseph Bishop LeBlond Tournament.
St Michael, in its first year of existence and
featuring several former O'Hara high school players and coach,
put together a strong third and early 4th quarter with a
smaller and quicker line up, forcing steals off a press and
hitting treys.
With the game tied at 49-49, Chillicothe hit one of two
free throws with 55 seconds left. With 29 seconds left the
Hornets Westley Brandsgaard stole the ball and was fouled,
hitting both free throws for a 3 point lead.
After a St Michael's time out, the Guardians set up a
three point play, but it was well defended by the Hornets. St
Michael's Sophomore Ben Palacios was on the left baseline and
took a dribble step inside the three point arc. He quickly
took a step back but lost the ball out of bounds. The Hornets
Jack Willard was fouled on the in bounds and Willard made one
of two free throws with 1.9 seconds left for the 4 point lead
and the win. |
