Brandsgaard hit a right wing trey with 45 seconds left to give
Chillicothe a 42-41 win over East Buchanan in the Bishop
LeBlond Tournament semi-finals.
Chillicothe jumped on top early, leading by 8 points in
the first quarter. East Buchanan responded with a 20-3 run and
led by 8 points at halftime. By the end of the third quarter
Chillicothe was down by 4 points.
The 4th quarter opened with an East Buchanan basket,
but Chillicothe turned up the heat from the outside with a 9-0
run off treys from Brandsgaard, Jack Willard and CJ Pfaff to
take a three point lead with 3:25 left to play.
The Chillicothe defense continued to pressure and kept
East Buchanan's Ethan Kilgore in check. Kilgore had 6 treys
and 35 points the previous night but was held to 13 points and
had just one shot attempt in the entire 4th quarter, which was
a missed trey.
Chillicothe had a 2 point lead with a minute left but East
Buchanan hit a trey and was fouled. The player sunk the free
throw for a 4 point play and a 2 points lead.
With 45 seconds left, The Hornets Hayden Montgomery had the
ball on the low post and fired a pass out to Brandsgaard on
the right wing, who caught it and shot the three ball for the
1 point lead.
East Buchanan attempted a trey and missed then fouled
Chillicothe, which missed the free throw with just over a
second left. After a time out, East Buchanan threw
the ball to just behind mid court and a shot hit of the top
part of the backboard and was no good, giving the Hornets the
win. |
