Mid
Buchanan had two chances to win in the final seconds but
Chillicothe held on beat Mid Buchanan 36-35 and win the Bishop
LeBlond Tournament championship, winning three games by a
combined total of 6 points.
Mid Buchanan led the entire first half, and the teams
traded one point leads six times in the third quarter.
Chillicothe's Walker Graves hit a right side trey to
open the fourth quarter and give Chillicothe a 4 point lead.
Mid Buchanan had two free throws which were answered by a two
point shot by Walker Graves for another 4 point lead.
Mid Buchanan then went on a 4-0 run with two free
throws and a 2 point basket to tie the game with 3:11 left.
Conner Sewell hit a trey that was answered by a two point shot
by the Dragons for a 1 point Chillicothe lead. The Hornets
then started running time off the clock with passes and
dribbling between the circles until Jack Willard was called
for a charge.
Mid
Buchanan took a time out with 20 seconds left and ran an
inbound play from baseline right. After several passes, the
ball went inside and was immediately tosses to Sophomore
Christian Skaggs on the right baseline. Skaggs missed the
shot, it was rebounded on the weak side by Drew Boller who
missed the short put back attempt at the buzzer.
Chillicothe's defense held Mid Buchanan to half of the
team's 70 points per game average so far this season.
The
tournament championship snaps a 12 year 47 tournament jinx by
the Hornet Boys who win their first tournament title since
their district title win in 2005. |
