To open a stretch of six straight home duals over the next three weeks, the Lady Hornets' Tennis Team decidedly beat the visiting St. Joe Lafayette Irish with an overall team score of 6-3, which takes the team to 3-0 in MEC play to start the year. On Tuesday afternoon at the Danner Park courts, the team started with a strong doubles showing to open the meet. Rylee Washburn & Izzy Garr won in the #1 Doubles slot with a score of 8 games to 5. The #2 Doubles team of seniors Cami Carpenter & Madison Kieffer fell in a nail biting match: 6 games to 8, while up on the middle court, the #3 Doubles team of Bryton BeVelle & Anna Pfaff strongly won their match up 8 games to 4.
In singles play, Cami Carpenter faced the same #1 Lafayette player, Brooklyn Lorenz, whom she battled in a tight tie-breaking set last year. This year, Carpenter stepped up and won decisively 8-3. Rylee Washburn also seemed to be locked in, winning the #2 match against Erinn Lotspeich 8-2. After dropping a few games early on, Izzy Garr turned up the power and sharp ball placement to come back and win the #3 match up 8-4. Bryton BeVelle played hard, trying to mount a stellar comeback after starting the #4 singles match down 0-4 when she then won five straight games, but eventually the slow start caught up with her, losing the head-to-head 6-8. Madison Kieffer lost to #5 Faith Scheerer 0-8. And finally, Micah Crowe played her strongest singles match so far in this early phase of the season clearly winning the #6 match 8-2.
