Coach says:
The Chillicothe Boys Soccer team kicked off the 2025 season by
traveling to Cameron to take on the Dragons. The youthful Hornets
were eager to get the season started after weeks of training.
The game started off back and forth as both teams
battled first game nerves. Saves by both keepers kept things
scoreless until the 20th minute when Coy Jones put in a rebound shot
to break open the scoring and put Chillicothe up 1-0. In the 28th
minute Coy Jones would score again on a rebound this time off a
blocked penalty kick that came right back to him to make it 2-0.
The score would stay that way after some wonderful saves by the
Hornet keeper Jesse Hughes.
In the second half Cameron came out aggressive and
found the net on a penalty kick 1 minute into the second half. A
few minutes later a corner by Cameron deflected off a Hornet
defender and into the net to knot the game 2-2 with just over 30
minutes remaining.
The Hornets would settled down and take control of the
match. On a corner from Issac Bailey in the 65th minute, the ball
found the head of Ryan Schuler to give the Hornets a 3-2
advantage. Then with about 8 minutes remaining the Hornets would
get a free kick from midfield. Freshman Mason Walter dropped a ball
to the 20 yard line and a rushing Josh Ojeaga was able to get a
touch over to Coy Jones who would head the ball into the net for the
hat trick and a 4-2 lead that would hold the rest of the match.
